The Short Version
Hi, my name is Veronika, but everyone calls me Vera. I love traveling and exploring new places. I have a camera in my hand so I do my best to capture special moments for others to enjoy and hopefully inspire to travel.

I am not from Montana, but moved here from Europe, specifically from Slovakia. I fell in love with photography when I was a kid - watching my dad develop his photos in a dark room. He gave me my first camera - Praktica from Germany, but soon after that digital cameras came out and I started with a little point and shoot.
I love traveling and got into hiking and backpacking, so most of my photos are in the landscape category where I try to capture those magical moments I get to experience out in the wilderness to share and inspire people. After I had a daughter I took a little break from landscape and traveling and focused on giving her all my time. Now her daddy and I take her hiking and traveling and she is loving it! If you'd like to read more about my story, check out my blog post about Why do I live in Montana. Why Gringa and what the hell does it mean?Friends called me Gringa while I was in Chile and I really liked the sound of it.
The word gringa is a term used in Latin America to refer to a white English-speaking woman, usually American. One rather fanciful theory traces its origin to the Mexican-American War of 1846-48 and the song "Green Grow the Rushes-oh", supposedly sung by the American troops. According to another theory it is a corruption of griego or "Greek", in the sense of anything foreign and unintelligible, as in the English expression "it's all Greek to me". |
